Picnic Tips

Warm weather is wonderful – but it can turn a perfect picnic into a food-safety problem if you’re not prepared! Before you pack the basket, remember these safeguards:

  • Keep it cold. Pack perishables into insulated bags, picnic baskets with ice packs and place inside a cooler!
  • Freeze water bottles to double as drinks and coolers!
  • Perishable foods should be packed last so they stay cold the longest.

With safety sorted, here are some recipes that we enjoy as vegan dietitians, and we know you will too!

Vegan Picnics

Summer has arrived – which means flowers are blooming, birds are singing and it’s time to dust off those picnic mats! Oftentimes, we want our picnic meals to be easy, fresh and tasty at room-temperature. In this article we’re sharing fresh, flavorful vegan picnic ideas that adults will crave and kids will love!

Fresh and Easy Salads

Light, nutritious and refreshing – these salads travel well and provide essential nutrients!

    • Add this fresh, tangy 6 simple ingredients asian inspired noodles salad that is easy to pack! You can use any vegetable that is available in your fridge or to your preferences.
  • Fruit Pasta Salad with Fennel
    • Be ready to blow your friends, family and lover with this colorful creation of summer on a plate!
    • A personal tip would be to put the dressing in a mason jar and mix it when it’s ready to eat! If we put the dressing in before, it can wilt the arugula and fruits can become mushy.
  • Strawberry-Mint Salad with Easy Maple-Dijon Dressing
    • This vibrant and refreshing recipe bursts with color and flavor! You can customize this recipe however you like but it’s already perfect on its own. A touch of mandarin adds a bright, citrusy twist and is even more eye-catching. It’s a kind of dish you’ll find yourself craving again and again.
  • Portobello Mushroom Salad
    • For mushroom lovers, you can incorporate different types of mushrooms into this recipe to make a mushroom symphony of flavors!

  • Club sandwich with “deli meat”
    • This crunchy and fresh recipe satisfies that summer craving with the bbq smoky flavor!
  • Jackfruit sandwich with avocado slaw
    • If tofu is not your jam, you can try jackfruit! You will be tricking people into thinking they’re eating pulled pork!
  • Sweet wrap
    • How do we feel about sweet wraps? Personally, we love it! It is so versatile and you can add in any fruits that you like.
