Insights into past and present experience:

Vegan Diabetes & Sugar Management: As a Certified Diabetes Educator, I support clients with diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and blood sugar-related concerns. My approach is practical and individualized, helping clients understand how food, timing, portions, activity, medications, and lifestyle can all affect blood sugar.

Vegan Weight Management: My approach to weight-related goals is evidence-based, individualized, and focused on long-term sustainability rather than quick fixes. I work with clients to understand their health history, eating patterns, lifestyle, preferences, and goals before building a plan together.

Balanced Plant-Based Eating: I help vegan, vegetarian, and plant-based clients build balanced meals that support energy, nutrient adequacy, and overall health. My approach includes practical meal planning, label reading, nutrient education, and strategies that fit your culture, budget, schedule, and food preferences.

Chronic Disease Management: I support clients with chronic disease concerns by helping them understand how nutrition can fit into their overall care. This may include building balanced plant-based meals, supporting energy and nutrient needs, and creating nutrition strategies that feel achievable in daily life.

Digestive Health & IBS: I support clients with digestive concerns such as IBS, IBD, colitis, gastroparesis, ostomy care, short gut, constipation, bloating, and possible nutrient deficiencies. I also understand the frustration that can come with digestive symptoms from personal experience with IBS.

Plant-Based Sports Nutrition: I have provided sports nutrition education to the University of Alberta Pandas women’s basketball team through group sessions and one-on-one support. I have covered topics like fuelling for performance, hydration, recovery nutrition, game-day eating, travel nutrition, and injury prevention.

Pregnancy & Gestational Diabetes: I have experience supporting clients with prenatal nutrition and gestational diabetes. My approach is to understand the client’s current knowledge, priorities, routines, and monitoring needs, then provide practical guidance that supports both the parent and baby.

Plant-Based Pregnancy & Preconception: I support clients in optimizing their nutrition before and during pregnancy, including supplementation, nutrient adequacy, and balanced plant-based eating.

Eating Disorders & Weight-Neutral Care: I have experience in both inpatient and outpatient eating disorder settings. My approach is patient-centred, weight-neutral, and focused on meeting clients where they are. I aim to reduce pressure, understand each person’s day-to-day reality, and support care that feels safe, collaborative, and appropriate to their needs.

Intuitive Eating: Across my work in weight management, metabolic health, and chronic disease care, I often come back to helping clients understand their bodies. I support clients in noticing body cues, exploring what affects those cues, and building eating patterns that feel more connected, informed, and sustainable.

Chelsey's Story

What inspired Chelsey to become a Dietitian & Plant based

  • What motivated you to become a dietitian

I was always the kid reading food labels. Growing up in the early 2000s, body image, diet culture, and conversations about weight were everywhere, and I became aware of those pressures from a young age.

I also played sports in high school and noticed there was a gap in support for athletes beyond just performance. Athletes were expected to train hard, compete, and show up, but there was not always enough guidance around how to fuel properly, recover well, and take care of the body long term.

Later, I had an Olympic lifting coach who was vegan, and that sparked even more interest in the connection between nutrition, performance, health, and plant-based eating. Dietetics became a way for me to bring together my interest in food, science, sport, health, and helping people feel more supported in their own bodies.

  • When did you become Plant-Based

I have been vegetarian since I was 11. I never really liked meat, and even as a young child, I would pick the hamburger patty off my burger. As I got older and started reading ingredient lists more closely, I became more aware of how often animal-based ingredients showed up in foods where I did not expect them.

At 17, I became fully vegan for ethical reasons, especially related to animals and the ecosystem. I stayed vegan for 8 years before my digestive symptoms became more difficult to manage, and I had to liberalize my diet to make sure I was getting enough nutrients while also limiting gluten and wheat.

My plant-based journey has taught me that nutrition is not one-size-fits-all. I believe awareness about what we put into our bodies is important, but so is figuring out what is sustainable, nourishing, and supportive for each person’s health and longevity.

  • How would you describe your approach?

My goal is always to make clients feel heard and supported. I never want someone to feel like they are being given a generic plan or that I am simply reading from a script. I take the time to listen to each client’s challenges, understand what is happening in their day-to-day life, and work with them to find the most realistic approach.

I also take a holistic view of nutrition, considering the many factors that can affect a person’s health, habits, and relationship with food.

FAQ with Chelsey

Frequently asked questions

  • Do you give meals plans?

Yes, we create personalized meal plans with you using the That Clean Life and Nutrium apps. You will receive your meal right after the session. We ask that you do an initial assessment before creating the meal plan, this is necessary as we are dietitians and need to ensure that we know your goals, medical history, current intake, and preferences before making any recommendations.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    Cancellation Policy

We understand that circumstances may arise that require you to cancel or reschedule your session, and we aim to provide a transparent cancellation policy. Please review the following guidelines:

    Cancellation Notice:

      • We kindly request that clients provide a minimum of 24 hours’ notice before the scheduled session if they need to cancel or reschedule.

    Cancellation Fees:

      • If a client cancels a session with less than 24 hours’ notice or fails to attend a scheduled session without prior notice, a cancellation fee of 100% of the session fee will be charged. This fee is necessary because we are often unable to fill the vacant spot on short notice, resulting in lost opportunities for others.

    Reminder Notifications:

      • To help you remember your upcoming sessions, we provide text and email reminders prior to your meeting. These notifications serve as a helpful reminder and offer a convenient way to confirm, cancel, or reschedule your appointment.

    Cancellation and Rescheduling:

      • Clients have the option to manage their appointments through their client portal. This allows for easy cancellation or rescheduling of sessions at your convenience. We encourage you to use this feature if your plans change.

Our goal is to provide quality service to all our clients while respecting everyone’s time. By adhering to this cancellation policy, you help us maintain a fair and efficient scheduling system. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

  • Do I have to pay when booking a consultation?

No, your Credit Card information will be required to book a consultation, however, you will not be charged until the end of your session or in the case of a late cancellation.

  • Are all the sessions online?

Yes. Sessions usually take place on Zoom, and if you prefer, we can do it over the phone. We use the excellent Practice Better software for scheduling, communication, and invoicing. Once you start with us, you will have access to your Practice Better client portal and a zoom link will be created for your sessions.

  • How do I know if my insurance covers your services?

You should check with your insurance company to see if dietitian and/or nutritionist services are covered.

  • Can you provide insurance receipts?

Yes, I will provide you with an insurance receipt at the end of every session.

  • Can you do in person sessions in Ottawa?

I only do Zoom sessions at this time.

  • What are your availabilities?
