Lucy's Story

What inspired Lucy to become a dietitian & plant based

Motivation to become a dietitian:

I have always enjoyed being in the kitchen since I was young, so it seemed a natural fit for me to become a nutritionists (once I learned what it was). To me, it’s the best blend of science, cooking, and psychology, with new things to learn every single week!

Motivation to become plant-based:

I was introduced to plant-based eating at my University, but only was convinced of its power over disease when I was staying with missionaries in Africa! Ever since that point, I felt it was imperative that I teach people about the healthiest diet on the planet, and not something more “moderate”.

Plant-based diets are not only powerful over diseases and symptoms of irreversible conditions, but they are the most sustainable diet on this planet, and therefore the most kind to the millions of people living with not enough food each day. I have also realized the horrors of animal agriculture and do my best to avoid contributing to animal suffering.

I follow a flexible eating pattern because I was taught that accepting food prepared by others is one way that we can show and accept love and participate in other cultures. I maintain a vegan diet at home, but remain flexible in cultural or social settings.

How Lucy can help:

Lucy has immersed herself in learning not only current nutrition topics, but other important subjects ranging from habit and behavior change, to psychology, to cultural contextualization, and more!

She is a non-judgemental listening ear, who can help you take what’s going on in your brain and heart and make it actionable in your daily life, so that you can stop daydreaming about the future and start living it!

Balanced Vegetarian/Vegan Diet: With her nearly 5 years of studying and personally (sometimes imperfectly) implementing a plant-based diet, Lucy understands the overwhelm and challenges that come with eating plant-based. She can boil it down to be much more manageable and actionable for you on a daily, monthly, and yearly scale!

Sports Nutrition Optimization: Drawing from her personal interest in running, cycling, and strength training Lucy can draw from her personal experience of meeting her athletic nutrition needs and help you do the same.

Eating Disorder Support: Having read many resources on eating disorders, Lucy understands what it takes to address the emotional underpinnings of eating. She has recently taken interest in and begun to coach those with food addictions, a newly researched and yet so prevalent form of disordered food relationship.

Intuitive Eating Guidance: Having grown up with a wonderful mom, but one who struggled with weight and healthy eating patterns, Lucy had to learn how to be in tune with her own emotional triggers for eating. She is a “refuse-not” eater, and understands how to help others incorporate intuitive eating principles, break free from chronic dieting, and make peace with all foods.

Digestive Disorder Management: Lucy has struggled with GERD since she was 18 years old, and has coached and received specialized training on conditions such as IBS, IBD, celiac disease, gluten-intolerance, SIBO and more. Lucy can assist clients with digestive imbalances and provide strategies to manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

Infant/Child/Family Nutrition Support: Lucy has her own child and knows how to navigate the common child feeding issues such as picky eating, baby-led weaning, and the concern parents feel about their child’s need for key nutrients. She can help you feed with confidence and also grace, as she recognizes none of us with get it right 100% of the time.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Nutrition:  Lucy maintained a predominantly plant-based diet for her entire pregnancy and for her daughter’s 2.5 years of breastfeeding! She can provide you with information to ease your worries and help you ensure the optimal development of your baby during pregnancy and lactation. She cheekily believes her plant-based diet is responsible for her daughter’s remarkable speaking skills at the age of 2.5!

Chronic Condition Management: The power of plant-based nutrition for disease prevention, management, and even reversal is what got Lucy excited about plant-based nutrition to begin with. It also continues to be one of her core passions, and she would love to help you learn how to manage or improve conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, and more, using the power of a plant-based diet!

Weight Loss: Despite her healthy pregnancy and lactation experience, Lucy has her own 30lb+ postpartum weight loss experience which she has used for the last year to help many clients learn how to optimize calorie density for weight loss.

FAQ with Lucy

Frequently asked questions

  • Do you give meals plans?

Yes, we create personalized meal plans with you using the That Clean Life and Nutrium apps. You will receive your meal right after the session. We ask that you do an initial assessment before creating the meal plan, this is necessary as we are dietitians and need to ensure that we know your goals, medical history, current intake, and preferences before making any recommendations.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    Cancellation Policy

We understand that circumstances may arise that require you to cancel or reschedule your session, and we aim to provide a transparent cancellation policy. Please review the following guidelines:

    Cancellation Notice:

      • We kindly request that clients provide a minimum of 24 hours’ notice before the scheduled session if they need to cancel or reschedule.

    Cancellation Fees:

      • If a client cancels a session with less than 24 hours’ notice or fails to attend a scheduled session without prior notice, a cancellation fee of 100% of the session fee will be charged. This fee is necessary because we are often unable to fill the vacant spot on short notice, resulting in lost opportunities for others.

    Reminder Notifications:

      • To help you remember your upcoming sessions, we provide text and email reminders prior to your meeting. These notifications serve as a helpful reminder and offer a convenient way to confirm, cancel, or reschedule your appointment.

    Cancellation and Rescheduling:

      • Clients have the option to manage their appointments through their client portal. This allows for easy cancellation or rescheduling of sessions at your convenience. We encourage you to use this feature if your plans change.

Our goal is to provide quality service to all our clients while respecting everyone’s time. By adhering to this cancellation policy, you help us maintain a fair and efficient scheduling system. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team. Your coope

  • Are all the sessions online?

Yes. Sessions usually take place on Zoom, and if you prefer, we can do it over the phone. We use the excellent Practice Better software for scheduling, communication, and invoicing. Once you start with us, you will have access to your Practice Better client portal and a zoom link will be created for your sessions.

  • Do I have to pay when booking a consultation?

No, your Credit Card information will be required to book a consultation, however, you will not be charged until the end of your session or in the case of a late cancellation.

  • How do I know if my insurance covers your services?

You should check with your insurance company to see if dietitian and/or nutritionist services are covered.

  • Can you provide insurance receipts?

Yes, I will provide you with an insurance receipt at the end of every session.

  • Can you do in person sessions in Vancouver?

I only conduct Zoom sessions despite living in Alberta.
